Karlos Kinney, 24, pleaded guilty this week in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia to voluntary manslaughter while armed in the April 2020 shooting death of Resha Blount and also to assault with significant bodily injury for a November 2022 attack on inmate Jordan Jones while detained.

Prosecutors said that shortly before the fatal shooting, Blount had invited Kinney to her home with the intention of purchasing marijuana from him, a common occurrence.

During this meeting, a dispute arose over the quality and price of the product, resulting in Blount ordering Kinney out of her home, at which point he pulled out a gun and shot her.

Blount suffered four gunshot wounds and died on the floor of her apartment.

According to court documents, while inside the DC Jail and waiting to be tried for the homicide, Kinney attacked Jones with a sharp object, leaving him with serious injuries to his upper body. Jones had to be rushed to Howard University Hospital for treatment due to the severity of his wounds.

Kinney is scheduled to be sentenced on Friday, June 21.
